“The streets are full of sweat in the mortar of your pavement”, according to the nineteenth century Brazilian writer, João do Rio, in his book, The Enchanting Soul of the Streets.
“Williamsburg” is the final work after spending some months (2015) in the neighborhood streets of Brooklyn. New York City is changing at unprecedented speed. The neighborhood of Williamsburg is an example of this fast transformation, which somehow disturbs me. As in the 5 Pointz in Queens (which was demolished to make way for luxury condominium complex), some of the other iconic sites in Williamsburg will also be demolished or in the process of being demolished. For example, Domino Sugar Refinery, began demolition in 2014 to make make room for redevelopment. The Domino Sugar Refinery is a former refinery in the neighborhood of Williamsburg in Brooklyn, New York City. It was the original refinery of the American Sugar Refining Company, which produced Domino brand sugar.
he proposal is to dialogue with raw photography. It intends to discuss the film’s influence on contemporary photography. This work aims to raise this question more than answer it. It claims to define a territory whose boundaries are, on the one hand, the aesthetic ambitions of photography and on the other, the deconstruction of photography pretensions from the early twentieth century, to the world of art.
