Montechiarugolo, architecture and identity

No men, not animals but houses, plants, flowers, weeds, walls, cars, streets and gardens, factories, schools, municipals, bell-tower, clocks and still tents, written on the ancient walls, ruins and inhabited buildings that only from the entrance gate, the lane of streets, the blind look tell us that something and somebody here has been and is still present, lives, breathes, thinks and dreams, makes projects.
In these landscapes where man no longer seems to live, as we were in a modern Pompeii, Andrea Pirisi tells us the dwellings of Montechiarugolo. In a continuous game with shadows and light, in a subtle, light and sometimes opaque language register, always respecting all the images, always with the discretion of those who want to stay out and enter the breath of these neighborhoods. And of the souls who inhabit it. Telling us the stratification of the urban fabric: from country to factory, from old to modern, even blatantly modern, almost essential. Not forgetting the anarchy of the gardens, the flowers and the wires that bind the houses, cross the streets, and disparage the transparency of the landscape.
But in this way, Andrea tells us that, in order to understand the present, we must look at a journey in the past, in what remains of this distant past, proposing it to the visitor and the citizen with the discretion and the passion of distance. In these photographs, the urbe always appears to us identical to itself, for those who see it today and have no long memory and together tell us about an irretrievably lost past.

in Mantua in 1971. I graduated in architecture, I attended the Master of Fotodesign, Form and Image-Formafoto at NABA in Milan, following the lessons of Gabriele Basilico and other authors. With my pictures I interpret the architectural space by keeping quiet about the texture of the stone and cement seeking rather to highlight the symbolic aspect.
