The Religion Of The Mind

When the word ‘religion’ is spoken, one may make automatic associations with numerous conventions such as God, prayer, worship and the conflicting powers of nations. While there resides a propensity to tear people apart, so too does religion bring people together. With monumental groundings of a faith coupled with the discrepancy of others to contest them, religion possesses the almighty power of elation and desolation through belief and disorder.
The purpose of this project is to take the concept and definition of ‘religion’ and remove it from the ‘organised collection of beliefs in cultural systems’ in an attempt to portray an unconventional side of faith and worship. It is the infinite space between the beliefs of each individual and the similarity or ritualistic behaviour, whether in the presence or absence of ‘God’, which inspired this project.
This series of photographs delineate the incredible connection and journey taken between two individuals through a mutual religion of each mind. These images crystallise sacred moments undergone through their unconventional worship of nature, making the beauty found in discovery through raw contemplation and a desire to extract the complex derivatives found within.

Rebecca Rose Harris
Rebecca strives to extract the beauty from the darkness and to preserve pivotal emotional states through abstract, symbolic representation using her photography. Her work often derives from her subconscious, unfolding an expanse of philosophical topics when analysing dreams, spirituality, nature, and the faith of ones mind. She explores the boundaries of both her physical and metaphysical self. She endeavours to connect with the tender part of an individual often reserved from others and oneself; to raise awareness that the unknown, unexplored sides of life are to be perceived with a golden vision.
She is a photographer that relies entirely on feeling and intuition. Every project of Rebecca’s is an important ritual, a process of which the outcome is a component of a much larger picture.
After a year long trip living on the roads of Europe, writing, photographing and recording music under the name Samana. Rebecca now resides in an old farmhouse in the isolation of the Brecon Beacons where she has built a darkroom and analogue studio with her partner, creating all her work.
