Photojournalism - NOMINEE: Visarut Sankham

"Behind Tin Walls" is a project documenting the lives of migrant working living in three different campsites of Bangkok. Mostly migrant workers from Cambodia, these workers occupy these temporary structures as they build Bangkok’s booming luxury condominium industry. Their own living conditions are of stark difference, raising health and safety concerns for the workers and their families. This set of photos shows the parallel world in the shadows beneath the rising towers of Bangkok, the ‘City of Angels’.


This project is started 9 months ago, and still undergoing. There are still one important part, which is about the life of migrant worker in their hometown or back in Cambodia. Therefore, if the project was funded, the budget would be used covering the travel cost to Cambodia.

my main focus and it’s the first reason why I am picked up the camera in the first place is the social injustice founding around myself. I always fascinated by the struggle of people, and the way that people trying to live their live. I usually see that beauty come out of whoever, whenever, or wherever that people are being in hash situation.
“I believe the best place to see hope, is the place where it almost gone,” and I am always looking for those place.

I have received the documentaries workshop from Sarakadee Magazine and received 2 times best photo essay during the workshop, and Documentary Photography workshop from Bangkok’s March studio.

I have contributed work to clients and publications such as Sarakadee Magazine, The Nation Newspaper. and mandarin ‘site called "Thenewlens"

Visarut was recently awarded for 3rd place on Aurora Photo Competition in 2017, and finalist on Lens On Social Justice in 2016.
