In LAND the photographer and author deals with the cultural land of his surroundings.
Useable area - a sober term which, on closer inspection, seems to be appropriate for a
large part of the agricultural cultivated land. Collective consciousness, on the other
hand, usually associates man-made landscapes with concepts such as naturalness or
originality.
The photographer examines this ambivalence of perception in the rural region of his
immediate surroundings in northern Switzerland in a poetic yet objective and precise
pictorial language. The photographs are prototypical of an image often found in
Central Europe. He shows how the will to order and the intensive management carried
out by man shape the structure of the landscape. Corridors and courtyards bear witness
to constant activity and yet are often deserted and lonely.
For several months, the photographer roamed the regions of his immediate surroundings
in the very north of Switzerland in the canton of Thurgau. The starting point was the
desire to develop a deeper understanding of the cultural landscape and its structures.
