EXtrarradios. Miradas a 9,90 € (Outskirts. Looks at 9,90€)

"Extrarradio. Miradas a 9,90” is a documentary photography project that focuses its gaze on the restaurants in the industrial zones of those cities are in the “Eje del Mediterraneo”, an important way of transporting goods in Spain, both rail, port and road.
Extrarradios is a project that aims to place the viewer in front of these often unknown places. Places where beauty and ugliness come together to make way for a new harmonic reality. This is what Alejo Carpentier (1904-1980) defined as “Lo Real Maravilloso” (Real Marvelous) when he said that things are not beautiful or ugly but are amazing because of the unusual. Everything unusual is marvelous .
“Extrarradios” shows a popular imagination that is disappearing due to globalization. It is this characteristic of the project that gives it importance as an anthropological archive of a culture and a society. A culture that is born with the industrial growth that occurs from the 50s-60s and that continues until today. A Spanish culture that has not yet been photographed in this way.
A project that speaks through silence, with images suspended in time. If in many of the images of Stephen Shore seemed like nothing is happening, in “Extrarradios” everything seems to wait for something to happen.
About author:
Jose Navarrete (Barcelona,1973). I started my photographic studies in 2013. As soon i finished, I recieve the national award Josep Albert Mestre 2016 for the best artistic academic work in Spain, with "Extrarradios. Miradas a 9,90". After, I won "Photogenic Festival 2018 Barcelona”, “Pa-ta-ta Festival Granada 2017” or awards in “Artphoto Barcelona 2016” among others prizes and mentions.
My interest in photography has always revolved around the anthropological documentary and / or photoreport, focusing on those forgotten cultural or social aspects that are in a process of disappearance or change.
Besides trying with my images to break the established line between what society understands by beauty and ugliness. Eliminating and trying that the spectator also eliminates this judgment of values of what I photograph. Many times we have a stereotyped view of things, without realizing that their interest is not in this duality of beauty and / or ugliness. The interest is in its own existence, in its own "reality". An idea that very well defined Alejo Carpentier with the theory of "The Real Wonderful" Something that has been reflected in works like "Extrarradios. Miradas a 9.90", that shows a popular imagination that is disappearing due to globalization
After extending my studies at Grisart 2017 scholarships, where did my project "Crossdressers" , photo-report about a group of mature men. A work that focuses on an almost unknown world, a fluid gender reality stigmatized by society.
