The bridging between engineering and medicine is producing increasingly futuristic-looking technologies. Exoskeletons that enable paraplegics to walk again, bionic prostheses that can be controlled by nerve impulses, robots that restore the mobility of stroke patients and much more. Technological innovation in the medical field is also attracting increasing political attention. Both in the largest EU funding programme for research and innovation, "Horizon 2020", and in the British government's policy paper "The Grand Challenges", the development of new medical technologies is one of the central points and is being funded with billions of euros.
The technological progress should be viewed critically. In the medical field, however, it offers unbelievable new possibilities for those affected. The following photo project should generate attention and make these possibilities accessible to more people.
