The story I sought to tell in this project was the emotional dynamics which take place in a romantic relationship between two people. My focus was to dive through the common social ideology of romantic love into the fundamental emotional experiences where the dividing line between love and hate, compassion and indifference, desire and rejection becomes blurred and at times imperceptible. I sought to discard the superficial emotional stimulations of love and show plainly and clearly what is truly felt after the infatuation period, where ones true self is exposed to one’s partner, where ones processes are clear to see, where ones fears and hopes are no longer guarded, where ones complexes drive ones emotional experience and at times are projected onto the other
Above all, I sought to show that love is not so much a particular experience, or the emotional euphoria of positivity for a particular person, but a growth in the experience of one’s own emotions. Love exposes us to new emotions, new thoughts and sensations within ourselves, and being in love is the active and daily struggle to be able to experience all of this turmoil within oneself.
Above all, I sought to show that love is a multi-layered emotional experience where both positive and negative emotions are the basis for ones experience of it.
About author:
I am a self-taught photographer and started playing around with analogue photography during my teens and young adult life. About two years ago I swapped for a digital camera.
I am attracted to storytelling, and photography allows me to do it without any excess. Its capacity in being able to tell a layered story within a moment, calling upon the viewer to wonder what came before and what will come after, is a foundation to my photography. Allowing things to be as they are for split second is a wonder I have not tired of yet, and enjoy the process of building up to that moment.
