The term metanoia derives from ancient Greek, it is a combination of a word μετά (" after "or" beyond ") and νόος (" perception / understanding / mind "). In psychology, the term is used as a "variation of one's mind." It was developed by Carl Gustav Jung, who believed that psychotic episodes can be perceived as positive, leading to self-healing processes. In this context, metanoia represents change, moving away from the persona and approaching the shadow and the ego. In the later works of psychiatrists, psychologists and philosophers, metanoia was used to describe an intensive stage of therapy.
During metanoia, deeply hidden memories come to light and the symptoms of mourning and depression appear. This stage serves to weaken defense mechanisms, which are a basic obstacle to the healing process.
One of the ways to be with oneself and to auto-communicate is to photograph. Forcing a change in perspective is a kind of meditation and focusing on the one's inside. By focusing on our reflection of the real world in the creative process, we can find in our psyche a way back to reality.
